Any sheriff or deputy wishing to apply for initial certification must submit an application and supporting documentation for review by the VSI Certification Committee. Deputies who are applying for certification must also have the approval and signature of their sheriff on the application.
Applications for initial certification or recertification will be accepted annually, beginning on October 1 and ending on December 31. Due to the labor intensive review process involved with each application, and the need to have all applications reviewed and approved by the established review deadline, application received after December 31 may not considered for review.
Completed applications and supporting documentation may be submitted via email or mailed to the Virginia Center for Policing Innovation (VCPI). VCPI is assisting with the initial processing of all program applications.
