Application Instructions

Certified sheriffs and deputies may apply for recertification every four years. The requirements for recertification focus on training and professional development activities that have occurred since the applicant’s last certification award. For further details, including questions about change in status, refer to the guidebook.

Applications for initial certification or recertification will be accepted annually, beginning on October 1 and ending on December 31. Due to the labor intensive review process involved with each application, and the need to have all applications reviewed and approved by the established review deadline, application received after December 31 may not considered for review.

Completed applications and supporting documentation may be submitted via email or mailed to VCPI.
